| My wife, Beverlee, and I were teaching at an Aglow
meeting, and after the meeting, a couple of the members came up and asked
us if we would pray for the president of their chapter. We said we would
and they brought the woman over to us. For some reason, she had hesitated
about asking us herself, which is not uncommon when there are demonic
problems, even though the person might not know it's a demon that has kept
them from asking for prayer. When we asked this Aglow president, whom
we'll call Jane for reference, what we should pray about for her, she
said, "I always have to force myself to give an offering of any kind, and
I've never yet been able to tithe. And as president of an Aglow chapter
that's not a very good witness"
Now this is a problem for a lot of Christians, but we had never before
been asked to pray for anyone about it. Nevertheless, we were willing to
pray the best prayer we could that God would help Jane to give as she knew
she should give and wanted to give.
As I started to pray for Jane, I reached out and put my hands on her
forehead. As I did, she physically reacted to my touch, and at the same
time the words, "fear of poverty" popped into my head.
The gift of "discernment of spirits" was working strongly in Beverlee
and I during that period, and it worked for us in exactly that way. So
when "fear of poverty" cut into my thoughts, I immediately became to
command a spirit of fear of poverty to come out of Jane.
When I did, she reacted somewhat violently for a few seconds and then
let out a loud scream and fell backwards. Some of the members who were
standing behind her caught her as she fell and lowered her gently to the
floor. She lay there for several minutes crying and praising God, as did
the Aglow members who were gathered around her. Beverlee and I walked away
and left them alone.
When Jane got up off the floor, she did an interesting thing. She
immediately went to where she had put her purse, took out her checkbook,
and wrote out a check and give it to the chapter treasurer, crying all the
time. Then she came over to us and thanked us profusely for helping her -
although, of course, it was the Lord and not us who did the work.
"Thank you so much," she said. "That's the first time I've ever been
able to give money and enjoy doing it. In fact, I paid my tithe to the
chapter, and I've never been able to do that at all." She said other
words, but those are enough to show that the Lord had immediately set her
free from her bondage to fear.
Now I know that there will be those who say there is no such thing as a
"spirit of fear of poverty." But we were there that day, the Holy Spirit
gave us the discernment, we cast it out, and the president of that Aglow
chapter was set free from it, and remained free from then on.
So if you don't believe there is any such demon, you'll have to come up
with your own explanation about what happened - and if you do, I'll bet it
will be a psychological one. They always are!
