| A little boy wanted to meet God, and since the playground
where he often played was such a happy place, he thought he might meet Him
there. His mother agreed, but said it might take awhile for God to show up,
so she packed his lunchbox with cookies and two small cartons of milk. "Now
remember, "she told him, "you have to be home in time for supper."
"Okay, Mom," he said, and hurried off to meet God. When he got to the park he didn't see God right away, but he saw an elderly man sitting on a bench feeding pigeons. He sat next to him. After some time waiting for God to show up, he felt hungry and opened his lunchbox to have a cookie. He thought the elderly man looked hungry too, so he offered him a cookie. The man thanked him and smiled so pleasantly that the boy felt warm all over. A little later when the boy felt thirsty, he took out a carton of milk for himself and offered the other one to the elderly man, because he was probably thirsty, too, and he sure liked the way he smiled. The man thanked him and smiled at him again - and the boy wondered why the smiling man made him feel so happy. A couple of hours passed without either of them saying much, just enjoying the day and each other's company. Then the boy realized it was nearly suppertime and he had to leave. He said goodbye to the elderly many and headed for home. But he had only gone a few steps when he turned back, ran to the man, and gave him a great big hug. The man gave him his biggest smile ever. And the boy felt happy all the way home. When he went into his house, his mother saw the look of happiness on his face, and asked him, "What did you do today that made you so happy?" He replied, "I met God, and we had lunch together." Then before his mother could speak, added, "You know what? God's got the most happy smile I've ever seen!" The elderly man also went home to his son's house where he lived. When his son saw the look of happiness on his face, he asked," Dad, what did you do today that made you so happy?" He replied, "I had cookies and milk in the park with God." Then before his son could speak, added," You know, he's much younger than I expected." Child of God, did you see God in someone today? "But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of
the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory,
just as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18) |
